The Link Up: Jess’s BEST Non-Stick Pan, Ryann’s Portable Exercise Machine, and A Bizzare Ice Cream Flavor We Don’t Know If We Should Try

Hey y’all and welcome to another Sunday Link Up! We’ve got lots of goodies in store for you including BUT NOT LIMITED TO Caitlin’s book about dogs, our favorite new frame, and LOTS of juicy juicy home tours. We hope you enjoy it all! Let’s jump right in 🙂

This home tour came straight to our emails via Domino a few weeks ago and we immediately said, ooh this would be a fun one for the link up. It tours you through the healthiest condo in Canada, yes it’s healthy. Because the design firm Evolved Living designed it by answering this question: “How can your home best support your health and well-being?” Now THAT is something you don’t see often. It’s super sustainable, got lots of chemical-free fabric and you won’t be disappointed by the secret sauna.

From Emily: Did you see all the awesome reveals Chris Loves Julia has been pumping out this month?? This bathroom reno is SO good and their little girl’s princess room is wildly awesome. Check them out 🙂

Also From Emily: Another reveal! Did you see the makeover Carmeon gave her tween son, Davin? It’s so fun, electric, and very timely for me since I just ask all of you what I need to about for future teen Charlie and Elliot’s spaces in the farmhouse.

From Jess: So a very, VERY exciting package arrived at my doorstep the other week and it was Material’s Coated Pan. Now I did get a set of stainless steel pots and pans for Christmas but I really haven’t perfected how to cook with them and not have e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g stick to the bottom badly. Y’all I’ve been pre seasoning. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?? So this little pan has made my whole life exponentially better. It cooks like a dream, nothing sticks (and apparently last 37x longer than ceramic whaaa?), and doesn’t have the harmful materials in that coating (which is why I asked for stainless steel for Christmas). Anyway, if you need a seriously great pan that can handle high heat, go get this one!

Also From Jess: Also From Jess: Did you all see that Framebridge just came out with an indigo blue wood frame?! I’m seriously in love and think it’s SUCH a cool what to add to great (but still neutral) color pop to your wall. The MOTO wheels are a turning my friends:)

From Caitlin: OH MY GOSH, Blown Away is back for season 2!!! I got hooked on this one after someone from the team recommended it to me last year, claiming that it had the perfect mix of innuendo and skill. This season is EVEN BETTER – imagine the camaraderie and feel good-ness of The Great British Baking Show combined with like, the heart-pounding drama of a harness-less tightrope walk. Pieces shatter ALL THE TIME (seemingly right before the completion of challenges, so there’s real tension), the contestants are all so lovely (even the arrogant ones are likable, somehow) and the finished products are UNREAL. My  favorite contestant was Andi – y’all GOTTA check out her shop here (I’m deceased over the platter set). Does anyone else wanna talk about the show????

Also from Caitlin: The Particulars of Peter. I’M CRYING. The best book about loving a dog. It’s a breeze to read – I was real into the preface and then totally sold by the first line of the first chapter: “What did I do before Peter? I’m trying to remember. I have to imagine there were things. I did computer, I guess. Typed. Sat alone. Shuffled around the apartment in stockinged feet. Made dinner and ate it while doing, what? Looking at the wall? And who did I feed a noodle to? No one?” (GAHHH. I’M CRYING AGAIN. You can preview the first few pages here but beware because you’re gonna be like “I NEED TO KEEP READING THIS STAT.”) You can buy via a local bookstore here or from a certain unnamed conglomerate with very fast shipping here.

From Ryann: A month or so ago I asked for your advice on whether or not I should buy an exercise bike. My worry was I would buy it and use it a few times and then get over it, leaving me with a huge piece of equipment in my already cramped apartment that has no storage. Well, I am happy to say I purchased this one and am extremely happy I did. I’ve been using it everyday and love how non threatening it is (I am not a very enthusiastic exerciser if you couldn’t tell). Every morning I bring it out into my living room and I will use it for 20-30 minutes and then throughout the day I’ll hop on it when I just want to get my body moving. It’s no Pelaton but it’s a steal for the price and perfect for my light weight workout needs.

From Albie: I’ve shopped Legendary Rootz one time before this — a glass mug that reads “you cannot your from an empty cup” — but when I saw an IG ad on my feed for one of their doormats, I couldn’t press “add to cart” fast enough! Aside from actually needing another doormat, it was the perfect excuse to support a Black business. When I got the mat — plus some new tops — in the mail I was super geeked. The quality, honestly, blew me away because really good quality doormats are actually hard to come by these days. The size, the backing, and the design… none disappointed! If I actually had somewhere to put em, I’d probably order more.

From Mallory: We drink sparkling water religiously in our household (like 12 a day) and because of that, we’ve made it a mission to find THE BEST flavor. We’ve tried La Croix (of course), Buble, Spindrift, heck we’ve even tried Kroger seltzer waters. This week we found THE ONE. Like I would marry it. It’s Aha’s peach honey sparkling water and it is THE MOST DELICIOUS beverage I have EVER consumed!!! Not joking, get your hands on one of these because they will change your life. K bye!

Also From Mallory: Would you try this everything but the bagel ice cream??? The website describes it as “cream cheese ice cream with everything bagel gravel.” YES GRAVEL. Idk about you but I yacked a little just thinking about it but a part of me also wants to try it. Thoughts??

So that’s all for this week! We hope you all have a fantastic rest of your weekend and a fabulous start to your week ahead! 🙂

Our “Non Try-Hard” Ways To Feel Sexy – From 7 Different EHD Women

This post (and the upcoming Valentine’s Day) may as well be sponsored by Bridgerton. If you’ve watched it you’ll know what I’m talking about as all my girlfriends have expressed how it has positively affected their marriage (I espoused this a couple years with Outlander, as well). Listen, being quarantined we all know that keeping the spark up can be challenging – so much time together, in sweats, and if you have kids it’s even harder. Regardless of your relationship status, if you are looking for ways to feel more comfortable and sexy without the straps and cuffs (certainly no judgment here), then the EHD team has collected some ideas for you, from those of us who are comfortable enough/had something to share. And if the idea of this post makes you uncomfortable (or if you are our dads) just come back tomorrow – we think that normalizing female conversations around having a healthy sex life is a good thing, but I get that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I’ll go first.

Pre-game Products

Bubble Bath | Razor | Wax Strips | Tanning Lotion | Lotion | Shimmer Oil & Bath Oil

I want to feel smooth and soft, so I normally use a dry brush to exfoliate then in the bath (I love this bubble bath after trying 16), I shave with this razor, I just got this waxing kit I’m going to try soon (I’m scared!) and then I use this lotion which smells SO GOOD. I also generally put on this tanning lotion (don’t forget the mitt) once a week in winter (more often in summer) to give me a bronz-ey glow that makes me feel good. But it does have that self-tan scent so I’d recommend applying it a day or two in advance then showering and putting on your scent. I also love putting this Aqua Parma on after that which gives a shimmer that is so pretty and subtle. Also a huge fan of Jo Malone bath oil.

To Wear (Or Not To Wear)

Besides the super special occasions (which are hard to do in Covid) I need to feel super comfortable. I just recently bought 3 pairs of the same pajamas (that I’ve been raving about for over a year) because they are so thin, SO soft, and cozy (HOT TIP – the fabric ‘modal’ is what I look for now). And while I think that no Cis male (or any male) would consider those “sexy”, per se, they are so thin and soft and cut in NOwhere (and easily come off), so for the less suspecting/planned nights, these are great. But for Valentine’s day (and for this post) I did a LOT of shopping online and found so few that I felt were flattering and yet comfortable and “me”. If you want to know what I bought and kept – what I found comfortable (I can’t with the underwire right now) and flattering it’s THIS romper and this top and bottom set. I also love the lines of this set that looks soft and pretty that I ordered but haven’t received yet.

The Shocking “Sleepwear” Winner

Speaking of unsuspecting…last year I got a cami and underwear set in a swag bag from a press party and I only opened it a couple months ago. I quite literally couldn’t believe how soft, thin and forgiving they were. When I looked at who makes this magical set it said ‘Jockey’ and I was like ‘well surely this is a collaboration with Goop or Doen or something’ but nope. They are REALLY thin, stretchy, and soft (not tight AT ALL, but not baggy – I don’t get it). I bought 3 sets and they feel like soft naked butter on your skin – Brian LOVES them despite how boring they are. AND they stay put! It’s not like they are so loose that they ride up, they are just so comfortable you don’t notice them in any way. Not too loose, not too tight – the sisterhood of the traveling cami set for all of us.

To Set The Mood

Bedding: Brooklinen percale sheets and duvet are my normal crisp, cool, and super soft go-to. I recently tried Buffy eucalyptus duvet and insert are both super comfortable if not more slick (not satin, but definitely more slick if that makes sense). And if you like the linen feel EHD loves the Casaluna line (but Brian prefers percale over linen).
Candles: I keep one of these on my bath tray and light it every time I bathe (far more frequently than ever before) and then another on my nightstand. I like that there’s 3 wicks and they smell so good.
Books: I’ve been reading steamy romance novels since I was 11 so I’m quite experienced in this. Most of my friends (including myself) enjoyed The Wedding Date series, and if you are bored and haven’t read 50 Shades, well, I’ll see you in 2 weeks when you come up for air.

From Arlyn:

Matte Lipstick | Bra & Underwear | Perfume

Nars Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil in Cruella: It might be a bit silly to slather on lipstick for myself and my four walls (well, and my husband), but I did this a few weeks ago and felt more myself than I have in 10 months. I felt powerful, confident, sexy. Cruella has been “my” color for the better part of seven years, and on days where I feel plain and meh, it sets me right.
This bra + these underwear: Challenge: Wear a set of matching bra and undies and just try not to feel like a superhero. Just try…YOU CAN’T. This is my #1 “sexy” trick, whether for myself or for my marriage. The set doesn’t even have to be particularly scandalous or risque. Just the fact that you’re pulled together enough to have a bra and a pair of underwater that match that are clean at the same time, well…that’d get anyone to feel themselves, amiright? Bonus points if there’s a cheeky cut or some lace involved.
Glossier You fragrance: I’m sure I’m not the only one here listing perfume. It’s low-hanging fruit, but that fruit hangs low for a reason. I used to be a daily spritzer, you know, pre-hermit Arlyn was at least. And recently, I eyed a bottle of one of my favorite fragrances right now and said “what the heck” and spritzed myself happy. Even if it’s just for you, what reason do you have to not smell good for yourself? Self-care baby. However, if you do have a partner, don’t be surprised if you walk past the room they’re in, and their legs involuntarily stand them up to follow you wherever you’re going, hypnotized…it smells that good.

From Ajai:

Cleansing Towelettes | Candle & Perfume | Lip Stain

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleansing Towelettes: If I can be candid about the situation, after having a child, personal hygiene can be tough to maintain. Handling a newborn makes me forget what day it is and if I took a shower, so these hydro boost cleansing towelettes have really come in handy. If my face and neck get sweaty throughout the day I love whipping these babies out. I can even use them to wipe off the breast milk that lives everywhere on my skin. These towelettes leave my skin glowing – my husband compliments me after almost every use. I smell, feel, and look good (sexy) after I use them.

Le Labo – Santal 26 Candle & Le Labo – Bergamot 22 Perfume: When I gave birth to our little one I had a c-section, so I’m not able to take baths to relax as I continue to heal. That said, scents have always been a big deal to me and I’ve been getting my fix with candles and perfumes. I love lighting my Santal 26 candle, in addition to (when I am able to take a shower) spraying on my Bergamote 22 perfume. Both of these scents make me feel so good, confident, and sexy.

Sephora – Cream Lip Stain – 27 – Black Cherry: Nowadays, I love putting this on for zoom meetings and FaceTime calls with friends and family. This color makes me feel like a real boss-lady and a darn sexy mama. It’s very chic, perfect for fall and winter, and I get so many compliments on this color when I wear it.

From Ryann:

Button Up | Body Scrub | Underwear

Oversized Button Up: This is going to sound pretty funny, but I recently bought a striped oversized men’s button up from Goodwill that’s super soft and comfy and turns out I feel effortlessly sexy in it. I’ve tried the lingerie thing and sure, it’s fun but sometimes it feels too performative and without a little liquid courage, it’s hard to not feel silly/self-conscious. So, a button-up with pretty underwear is my go-to and makes me feel cute and sexy.

Body Scrub: This body scrub is nothing special or fancy, but I got it for Christmas and both my fiancé and I love how it smells plus it makes my skin feel really soft. For some reason, I am really lazy about putting body lotion on, but when I use this scrub I love following it up with body butter so I feel extra pampered.

Parade Underwear: There’s a good reason this brand is all over Instagram. I have three pairs but I wish I had a hundred because they are so soft and comfortable and I think I feel best when I am just walking around my apartment in a little t-shirt and these undies. The mesh side detail is also very cute and sexy.

From Rashida:

Lipstick | Top | Curling Wand

Lately I’ve been retiring my natural curls for wand curls, and it’s created a new woman, a new identity that makes me feel very sexy. Package the wand curls with my favorite matte red lip, and my black squared neckline top, and you can’t tell me nothing!!

From Mallory:

Cowl Neck Top | Bra

Cowl Neck Top: If there’s one thing I LOVE this a cowl neck top. If you’re in my club, IBTC (itty-bitty-titty-committee) this one is for you. Wearing a big ol’ pushup bra can make me feel sexy but NOT wearing a bra can also make me feel sexy (plus it’s wayyy more comfortable). I love wearing cowl neck tops like this because they’re low-cut without being like uh your boobs are out PLUS the fit of the shirt automatically gives you extra zhuzh up top. I wear this all the time (even in Covid).

Bra: On the flip side, a bra with some padding makes me feel sexy since it’s basically doubling the size of my ladies. This one from the one and only Victoria’s Secret is great because it comes in lots of colors and fits in the comfiest way (especially for a push up)

From Sara:

Lip Stain | Perfume Oil | Earrings

Multi Benne Stick: This lip stain from NOTO is a little dark, really soft, and kissable, and exactly what I swipe on for date nights.

Stargazer Lily: Mac got me this perfume oil for my birthday this year, and I find myself rolling it on right before I get into bed all the time. It’s a really sensual, deep heady floral scent, but it’s not overwhelming. To me it smells like a humid summer night – think “The Notebook”

Huggie Hoops: I bought these for myself a few months ago, and haven’t taken them off since. Wearing gold hoops makes me feel close to my mom, grandma, and female relatives in Guatemala (where my first pair of gold hoops were sent from as a baby gift when I was just 3 weeks old). A pair of gold hoops are a part of my daily armor, and make me feel very much myself.

Well, there you have it. All the scents, intimates, clothing, jewelry, etc that make US feel good and sexy. What makes you feel good? There are no wrong answers and we’d love to know. xx

The Winter Tech Essentials I’ve Found Myself Needing Now That We Live In Actual Cold Weather

Making the move from year round warmth (LA) to “seasons” (Lake Arrowhead) has meant a few cold-weather and snow inspired tech things that I never thought I’d need nor did I know existed but which we’ve found VERY helpful. While I had a parka before, I finally got that less cool (but strangely flattering) sleeping bag coat (that fits in a tiny bag for packing) and while I’ve had gloves in the past of course, I finally got some that also answer a phone call or take a video. Don’t even try to borrow Brian’s new bluetooth beanie that we made fun of when his mom got it for him for Christmas – because he LOVES it (and ordered another one, too). So if you are living in the cold climate and have the real NEED for these more low-tech cold-weather gear, this post is for you.

1. Heat Tech Knit Gloves | 2. Leather Tech Gloves | 3. Smartwool Liner Tech-Compatible Gloves | 4. Touch Knit Gloves | 5. Etip Salty Dog Knit Tech Gloves | 6. Bon Jacquard Touchscreen Gloves

I don’t trust myself with expensive gloves, but I wanted to try some tech gloves so I bought these from Uniqlo. They work to unlock the phone and take a photo/video but they aren’t accurate enough for long emails or texting. But that’s enough for me now (and the gloves themselves are fitted and warm). These leather ones from J. Crew seem really nice (and would be a great gift) and I can see these ones being ideal for working outside as they are also wind and water-resistant.

1. Wireless Smart Beanie | 2. Collection Genuine Shearling Bluetooth®Earmuffs | 3. Upgraded Bluetooth Beanie Hat Wireless Headphones | 4. 180s Degree Mens Bluetooth Ear Warmer | 5. Wireless Beanie Winter Pom Pom Music Hat | 6. Bluetooth Earwarmers

Like I said, Brian loves his bluetooth beanie and because we are both big podcast listeners, I think I might want one for myself for my morning walks and bike rides. I like the idea of bluetooth ear warmers too and wonder if the speakers work better because they are cuffed around your ears. Thoughts?

1. Men’s Black AA Battery Heated Gloves | 2. Rechargeable Electric Heated Socks | 3. Hotronic XLP PFI 50 Surround Heat Socks | 4. American Mammoth Heated Glove | 5. Unisex Large Flecking Gray Coolmax Blend Heated Socks | 6. ActionHeat Adult AA Battery Heated Fleece Gloves

In our editorial meeting yesterday, Mallory told us her dad recently got a pair of heated socks and we were all intrigued. Is this something all people in cold climates have?? Do you wear them just inside the home or when you go outside and how comfortable are they to wear with shoes? I can get on board with heated gloves, but the socks seem tricky but you tell me.

So, are there any other winter tech essentials I am missing? Please help us former Los Angelenos get our winter weather bearings. xx

Ask The Audience: How To Design Now For Your Future Teens

We have younger kids now (5 and 7) but word has it that they’ll eventually grow up to look like they do above (you are welcome for this weekly dose of EHD creepy photoshopping). You all were so helpful with the ‘how to design for rainy weather‘ last week that I thought I’d try another one. The other day my brother’s architect, Annie, off-handedly said that teenagers don’t like sitting in dining booths as if everyone knew this. This was news to me… like WHY? I thought everyone liked to sit in booths. Is it the lack of independence? The having to ask someone to get out so you can get out? I didn’t know! Then earlier this week a lot of you chimed in that our kids would NEVER do homework in the upstairs landing which I totally understood, but wouldn’t have known. So with the world renovating right now, it seemed like there is a lot of information that those of us with small kids could use, to help us design the best home long-term for our aging family (remind me never to say ‘aging family’ again). What else am I not thinking about? (By the way, the kids are in a Peter Pan phase and at first, REALLY didn’t like the above photo because they don’t want to grow up, but then wanted to see it like 10 times and were laughing hysterically by the end – excited to talk to their future therapist about this one!).

photo by sara ligorria-tramp | from: the dining room built-in dilemma (+ the 3 mistakes we made)

For instance, with toddlers, you really want open cubbies for toys so they can see them, but now that the kids are older we all like more closed storage that is easy to access. I’ve heard that kids shouldn’t be in full beds or it will make transitioning into a twin bed (in dorm rooms) difficult which I had never thought about (and frankly I’m unsure about – we are Team Big Bed over here). When renovating do you think about them sneaking out? What about their need for privacy? How much privacy? How about the fact that we’ll have two kids of the opposite gender sharing a bathroom. Any advice for that?

photo by sara ligorria-tramp | from: a refresh of our favorite “child client’s” – bedroom 8 years later

You know how older folks don’t like sitting in ‘lounging sofas’, are there types of furniture that teenagers tend to like or dislike that you can’t predict until you have them?

I’m not down to placate my kids, coddle them with an easier life they already were given, but if there are warnings or ways to improve my life as their mom, well, I’m listening. Here we go:

  1. Size and location of beds – I’ve heard that kids like being in a corner – is this true for older kids? Is a twin or full or queen preferred?
  2. Locks on doors – seriously at what age, if any, is that something that is offered?
  3. Closets + clothes storage – Will teens actually hang up their clothes? or should we design the closets to be more drawers and shelves?
  4. Are there considerations we should think about for the media/family room? Like should we wire for more stuff than just a TV? Will they continue to rub popcorn all over our sofas until they graduate?
  5. Bedroom Location – Most pressing right now (and not something I can change) is the fact that our bedroom is in a different ‘wing’ than the kids and that makes me nervous (both for them and for me). Please tell me I won’t regret this and that in fact long-term I’ll be psyched that we each have more privacy. By the time we move in, they’ll likely be 6 and 8 and I’m hoping they’ll be fine, but I’d love for any of you to confirm that this is a good choice because I’m nervous about being so far away from them.

Any tips would be super helpful. Again we only want to do this once and I don’t want to miss anything! Ha. Teen Charlie and Eillot are extremely grateful for making their (and their parents) lives a little better:) xx

3 Tips to Choose the Perfect Area Rug for Under Your Bed | Atlas Weavers

No matter the size of your bedroom, a rug under your bed can easily elevate your room’s look. The right rug not only improves the aesthetics of the area but also makes it more comfortable, especially during winter when the floors get cold. Likewise, rugs are a great way to minimize noise, protect the floor from scratches, and even hide unsightly stains.

Moroccan Rug under Bed

But how do you choose the right area rug that would look the best under your bed? Here are three tips from one of your best sources for bespoke Moroccan rugs:

  1. Know What Size of Rug to Get for Your Bed

While there’s no rule saying that there’s a specific size you should find for your bed, you should still consider both the size of your bed and the bedroom itself. If you don’t get the right size of the rug, it could look awkward. As a guide, choose a rug that will still stick out around two feet beyond your bed’s edge, unless there’s a chest or bench at the end of your bed, in which case you’d have to add at least another foot to the length of the rug. (bed sizes and dimensions guide)

You might also want to check out this size recommendation for under-bed rugs:

  • Twin Size Bed - 5’ x 8’ Rug
  • Full-Size Bed - 6’ x 9’ Rug
  • Queen Size Bed - 8’ x 9’ Rug
  • King Size Bed - 9’ x 12’ Rug

  1. Pick the Style that Works Best With Other Design Elements in Your Room

It’s your room, so you alone can tell what will look best with the aesthetic you have in mind. You might want neutral colorways, classic prints, geometric patterns, vintage, Moroccan, or others.

If you are moving to a new place, you can choose any style, color, and pattern for your rug, then choose accessories that go with it. However, if you’re just adding a new rug to an already decorated room, then your choices will be limited to those that work well with other design elements and color palettes of your bedroom. Unless you’re going for that quirky, clashing look, then feel free to be as adventurous as you can with your rug choices!

If you’re not sure what you want, Atlas Weavers has a wide range of area rugs of different styles, colors, and materials that you could choose from. You might even find one that suits your bedroom from one of our collections.

  1. Choose The Material and Texture That’s Right For You

Nothing can beat the comfy feeling of having a luxurious rug under your feet from the moment you wake up. If that’s what you’re looking for, the thick and fluffy wool of an Authentic Moroccan rug will deliver what you want.

If you’re not exactly keen on having something so textured, then you can consider woven rugs like Moroccan boucherouite rugs made of pure cotton or cotton blends. There are also coarse natural fiber rugs like sisal that you might love if you’re going for that clean and simple look.

When choosing your rug’s material and texture, be sure to consider whether or not you have pets, how often you can clean your rug, and if it will be easy to clean spilled food.

Conclusion

Choosing the right type of rug for under your bed can be an overwhelming process if you don’t know what to look for. The right size, style, material, and texture are just some of the considerations you need to make when selecting a rug. By following the tips shared above, you’ll be able to have a smoother experience when looking for a new bedroom area rug!

Atlas Weavers is your best source for high quality and unique Azilal, Berber, and Moroccan rugs.  We can provide you with a one-of-a-kind rug of any size that will suit your bedroom perfectly. Get in touch with us today to know more about our rugs, or check out our collections!

Desperate For More Storage? Here’s 105 Product Picks To Satisfy Your EVERY Storage Need

My name is Ryann and I am desperate for storage. You may already know this because I’ve written about this subject a billion times, but for those of you just tuning in here’s all you need to catch up: I live in an apartment with my fiancé and dog and we have only a single, very small closet for storage. You know it’s a grim situation when there are clothes in bathroom cabinets and important documents in kitchen drawers–but we make it work (mostly because we have to).

So, when it comes to storage woes, I am well versed but always looking for more solutions. In the past year or so, I’ve found it’s essential to focus on making the most of both open and closed storage options in order to create a space that doesn’t feel like storage is a top priority. Obviously you want your pretty things to be displayed and your not-so-pretty things hidden, but to really savor every inch of a space you must take advantage of storage furniture and think outside the “storage ottoman”. As this has been a design agony of mine for quite some time, through trial and error, I’ve come up with some basic Do’s and Don’ts:

  • DO ask yourself what pieces of furniture you could fit into your space that can offer open or closed storage or both. My motto is “anything can be a closet if you try hard enough.”
  • DON’T store prettier items like blankets or shoes in closed storage when you have closets overflowing (try putting them in a basket instead where they can be “put away” but not hidden allowing more room in closed storage for your undesirable things).
  • DO make sure you have a mix of storage and non storage furniture so your space doesn’t feel boxy or visually stuffy.
  • DON’T think you have to skimp on style when it comes to storage furniture–that’s what we’re here for!

With these tips and A WHOLE LOT of product roundups, my hope is this will be the holy grail roundup of beautiful storage furniture and products that will help solve all your problems. May we all satisfy our storage needs in the year 2021. Let’s get to it.

Baskets

photo by sara ligorria-tramp | from: makeover takeover: julie’s huge (diy packed) bedroom update

Baskets are cute as decor and can be great for freeing up precious storage space. I am team throw shoes in a basket because A) I am lazy and B) baskets take up less visual space than a shoe rack. Baskets are also ideal for towels, blankets, magazines, and anything that you wouldn’t mind guests taking a peek at.

1. Dotted Green Basket Set | 2. Open Weave Basket | 3. Handmade Tuscan Laundry Basket | 4. Black Mustard Patterned Basket | 5. Diani Natural Basket | 6. Mushroom Basket | 7. Set of 2 Abaca Baskets | 8. Handwoven Jute Storage Baskets | 9. Swirl Seagrass Baskets | 10. Lidded Seagrass Basket | 11. Garissa Khaki Basket | 12. Patterned Grass Hamper

Lidded baskets such as #6, #10, and #12 are a dream for storing shoes or toys. They can be filled to the brim and you don’t have to worry about what’s inside looking “stylish”. Also, how adorable would #6 be in a kid’s room or nursery??? Too cute.

Ottomans

I’ll be honest, I thought my living room would be complete sans ottoman until I realized I needed to use one to maximize storage. It would be a missed opportunity and there are plenty of ottomans that beautiful, functional, and good for storing blankets (or shoes..or puzzles..or dog toys etc., etc.).

1. Burnout Velvet Ottoman | 2. Skirted Storage Ottoman | 3. Round Storage Ottoman | 4. Set of 2 Round Velvet Ottomans | 5. Boucle Storage Ottoman | 6. Handmade Rattan Ottoman | 7. Eliot Storage Ottoman | 8. Round Tufted Ottoman | 9. Vintage Upholstered Ottoman | 10. Skirted Storage Ottoman | 11. Tufted Square Ottoman | 12. Mid-Century Storage Ottoman

If you want your ottoman to also be a statement piece, a vintage piece like #9 would certainly turn heads. In fact, if you are looking to add pattern or color to a room, ottomans are a great way to do So. For a pop of color, look no further than #7 and #10, which can be customized (and you have a ton of fabric and pattern options to chose from).

Benches

Benches are a great option for entry, living room, or bedroom storage. Basically, wherever you can fit a bench I say go for it–especially if you are desperate for more storage–just make sure to vary your surrounding furniture so there you have a variety of heights and sizes (i.e. you wouldn’t want to put a storage bench next to a media cabinet or credenza that is of the height/width).

1. Vintage Storage Bench | 2. Petite Deep Storage Ottoman | 3. Modern Bench | 4. Lorraine Tufted Storage Bench | 5. Folsom Bench | 6. Vintage Lowboy Dresser | 7. Short Vintage Bench | 8. Steen Storage Bench | 9. Schmit Upholstered Storage Bench| 10. Large Catch-All Sand Bench | 11. Acacia Wood Storage Bench | 12. Upholstered Flip Top Storage Bench

If I had the space and funds, I would buy #7 in a second. I love the legs and the classic mid-century shape (and it’s vintage!). On the other hand, I love the traditional style of #4 and I know for a fact my mischievous dog Gus would love to make #8 his personal nap spot.

Coffee Tables

Coffee tables with storage are usually my least favorite category. It’s unfortunate when you want a beautiful, sculptural coffee table and instead have to opt for something a little more functional, which is why we scoured the internet to find the prettiest options out there. Spoiler alert: these ones are VERY good.

1. Williams Coffee Table | 2. Upholstered Storage Ottoman | 3. Reclaimed Storage Table | 4. Purl Rotating Coffee Table | 5. Antonina Coffee Table | 6. Cane Accent Storage Table | 7. Benchwright Rectangular Coffee Table | 8. Wood Coffee Table | 9. Distrikt Coffee Table | 10. Les Revoires Coffee Table | 11. Paityn Coffee Table | 12. Drum Storage Coffee Table | 13. Willow Drum Coffee Table | 14. Industrial Pop-Up Table | 15. Valeria Coffee Table

If you are worried about having a lot of boxy, rectangular furniture, you can’t go wrong with a round storage coffee table like #4. Varying shapes of furniture is always important to open up a space and create visual interest. However, a table with an open bottom shelf can have the same effect and can be a place to style coffee table books.

Credenzas And Media Cabinets

Credenzas and media cabinets are a classic storage solution. Since most of us need somewhere to put our TVs anyway, a media cabinet or credenza is the perfect place to sneak in some extra storage, but you can really put them anywhere space permits.

1. Elson TV Stand | 2. Studio McGee x Target Media Stand | 3. Claire Sideboard | 4. Kyra Media Console Table | 5. Solna Media Console | 6. Warwick TV Stand | 7. Aubrey Media Console | 8. Windham Large TV Stand | 9. Burled Media Console | 10. Modular Media Console | 11. Reflect Rattan Credenza | 12. Sage Green Media Console | 13. BESTA Unit | 14. Edison TV Stand | 15. Avers Media Cabinet | 16. HAVSTA Unit | 17. Luke Media Console | 18. Foundry Media Console | 19. Ivy Media Console | 20. White Wash Teak Credenza | 21. Aged Brass Sideboard

If you are really short on storage space, a fully enclosed credenza would be your best bet, but those with open and closed shelving can create more visual interest and styling opportunities. It’s hard to even pick my favorite but #2 is up there along with #5 and #20.

Bar Cabinets

In the world of desperate storage, bar cabinets can be linen closets, wardrobes, shoe storage, office supply closets, WHATEVER YOU NEED THEM TO BE. There are no rules when your things desperately need a home. For example, the bar cabinet I have stores my fiancé’s clothes and some toiletries which actually works out wonderfully since he gets up before me. This way, he can get ready in the dining room without waking me up which makes us both happier in the long run. Sometimes we all win when rules are broken :).

1. Fayette Bar Cabinet | 2. Tamboured Bar Cabinet | 3. Bauer Bar Cabinet | 4. Juneau Bar Cabinet | 5. Dark Wood Bar Cabinet | 6. Mid-Century Bar Cabinet | 7. Vintage Mid-Century Bar Cabinet | 8. 2-Door Accent Cabinet |9. Hand-carved Samuel Cabinet | 10. Blue Accent Cabinet | 11. Vintage Walnut Bar Cabinet | 12. Adna Bar Cabinet

I was given #3 second hand and it’s one of my favorite pieces in my home. Like I said before, my fiancé uses it to store most of his clothes and it’s our biggest reliever of precious closet space. The best thing about bar cabinets is they are super versatile and bring a ton of charm to a space. They can store a myriad of things while also looking so good.

Clothing Racks

Having clothes out on display is not the most ideal, but it is better than having vacuums or exercise equipment in plain view. And in any case, who says fashion can’t be decor?

1. Minimalistic Clothes Rack | 2. Flex Modular Clothing Rack | 3. Rainbow Clothing Rack | 4. Metal Clothing Rack with Wooden Shelf | 5. Gold Clothing Rack with Shelf | 6. Black Dark Grey Iron Minimal Rail | 7. Faux Marble Clothing Rack | 8. Gold Metal Clothing Rack | 9. Tikas Clothes Rack

I love the idea of #1 especially if floor space is limited (perhaps it could be an easy enough DIY? DIYers what do you think??). #4, #5 and #9 would be ideal in a small bedroom or entry and I love the unique shape of #7.

Armoires and Wardrobes

If space permits, a wardrobe or armoire is the most chic way you can add another closet to your home without renovating. I personally think armoires look intriguing in any room and offer the best closed storage, hence why they are my favorite category of furniture.

1. Antique French Armoire | 2. Luz Armoire | 3. Cane & Oak Armoire | 4. Moro Armoire | 5. Cane Wardrobe | 6. 1930s Deco Wardrobe | 7. Vintage Teak Armoire | 8. Brayden Reclaimed Armoire | 9. Solid Cherry Armoire | 10. Annie Charcoal Storage Cabinet| 11. Gemini Armoire | 12. Room & Board Armoire

My dream is to one day have a home where I can put an armoire in every room. No, I am not kidding. I love the look and aesthetic they bring to a space not to mention, yep you guessed it, they’re unsung storage heros. I can picture something like #1 or #8 bringing much needed vintage charm into any room and I am OBSESSED with the oval shapes of #3 #5 and #10. In my opinion, when it comes to armoires you really can’t go wrong.
